Floods, Famine and Faith: Climate Lessons from the Stories of Nuh, Musa and Yusuf

November 14 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Maqasid Institute is pleased to present a lecture titled: “Floods, Famine and Faith: Climate Lessons from the Stories of Nuh, Musa and Yusuf”.

Climate change is usually discussed as a scientific, economic or political problem. It is all of these. Yet the Qur’an and Sunnah invite us to see it more deeply: as a test of how faithfully we carry the trust placed in our hands. This lecture brings revelation and science into conversation, asking what the Qur’an’s own accounts of environmental upheaval can teach a world facing a changing climate.

Key Discussion Themes

  • The Story of Nuh (AS): A story of warning and response. In an age of repeated scientific warnings, it asks what it costs a people to ignore a clear warning, and what it means to prepare before disaster arrives.

  • The Story of Musa (AS): Carries the theme forward into questions of power and justice. It explores how corruption brings drought and suffering, while the sharing of scarce water fairly ensures no group is left without.

  • The Story of Yusuf (AS): Completes the picture with a model of wise leadership, resource management, and long-term planning to navigate crises like food shortages and climate challenges.
