Maqasid Institute invites you to our Monthly Discussion Session for July, featuring a scholarly dialogue led by Brother Fazwee Nawaz.

This lecture examines two influential models of Maqasid Thought through the works of Ahmad Al-Raysuni and Jasser Auda. It explores Maqasid both as a Shariah-based methodology for legal reasoning and as a broader intellectual framework for:

  • Reforming Muslim thought.

  • Understanding reality.

  • Responding to contemporary challenges.

Fazwee Nawaz

Sheikh Fazwee Zahaa is a graduate of Islamic Studies from Naleemiah Institute of Islamic Studies, Sri Lanka, and holds a degree in Social Sciences from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He has received specialized training in Islamic sciences, the Arabic language, and contemporary Islamic thought.

Academic Interests:

  • Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence).

  • Maqasid al-Shariah (Objectives of Islamic Law).

  • Qur’anic Studies.

  • Islamic intellectual history and contemporary Islamic thought.

  • Exploring the relevance of classical Islamic scholarship to contemporary intellectual and social challenges.

Current Position:

Currently, he serves as a Research Assistant in the fields of Islamic Studies and Humanities, contributing to academic research and scholarly projects.
