SUMMARY:Trust as the Relational Condition of Maqasid al-Wahy: A Tawhidic Framework for Integral Peace Leadership in an Age of Polycrisis
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Monthly MI Discussion Session series\, Maqasid Institute is pleased to present its September Discussion Session\, bringing together speakers to explore the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence and its implications for the future of humanity. \nNo Planet\, No Peace: Can a Maqasid of Trust Help Us Navigate the Polycrisis? \nClimate change\, ecological degradation\, conflict\, and declining institutional trust are converging rather than separate crises—a wicked problem that no single authority owns and no single discipline can resolve alone. This session tests whether trust\, drawn from Tawhid\, amanah\, mizan\, khilafah\, and islah\, is not an additional maqsad but the relational condition through which the maqasid al-wahy become achievable. \nWorking through five interdependent spheres of trust (inner\, relational\, civic\, ecological\, and generational\, all grounded in Tawhid)\, the 5Rs methodology (responsibility\, relationship\, respect\, reflect\, and renew)\, and planetary health science’s account of interdependence\, participants will stress-test the framework against a live case study (extreme urban heat) to see whether a Maqasid lens changes what becomes visible and where it breaks down. \nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Amjad Saleem is a peacebuilding\, humanitarian\, and development pracademic working at the intersection of community resilience\, youth engagement\, faith\, and planetary health. He serves as Special Advisor on Youth\, Community and Faith at the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health\, Malaysia\, and Deputy Director of the Centre for the Study of Wicked Problems at the Institute of Strategic Risk Management. He also holds academic appointments as Assistant Professor of Humanitarian Leadership at the Zakat Foundation Institute\, USA\, and Adjunct Faculty at Minhaj University Lahore\, Pakistan. \nWith extensive experience at IFRC\, International Alert\, The Commonwealth Foundation\, and Muslim Aid\, Dr. Amjad has led initiatives on youth engagement\, interfaith action\, inclusion\, conflict resolution\, and policy development. His publications include Lessons from Aceh and contributions to the Routledge Handbook on Contemporary Sri Lanka. He holds a PhD from the University of Exeter\, an MBA\, and an MEng from Imperial College London. \nSession Details:\n\n\nDate: September 19 \n\n\nTime: 3:00 PM Makkah Time \n\n\n  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER
