SUMMARY:Floods\, Famine and Faith: Climate Lessons from the Stories of Nuh\, Musa and Yusuf
DESCRIPTION:Maqasid Institute is pleased to present a lecture titled: “Floods\, Famine and Faith: Climate Lessons from the Stories of Nuh\, Musa and Yusuf”. \nClimate change is usually discussed as a scientific\, economic or political problem. It is all of these. Yet the Qur’an and Sunnah invite us to see it more deeply: as a test of how faithfully we carry the trust placed in our hands. This lecture brings revelation and science into conversation\, asking what the Qur’an’s own accounts of environmental upheaval can teach a world facing a changing climate. \nKey Discussion Themes\n\n\nThe Story of Nuh (AS): A story of warning and response. In an age of repeated scientific warnings\, it asks what it costs a people to ignore a clear warning\, and what it means to prepare before disaster arrives. \n\n\nThe Story of Musa (AS): Carries the theme forward into questions of power and justice. It explores how corruption brings drought and suffering\, while the sharing of scarce water fairly ensures no group is left without. \n\n\nThe Story of Yusuf (AS): Completes the picture with a model of wise leadership\, resource management\, and long-term planning to navigate crises like food shortages and climate challenges. \n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Gaathier Mahed \nAdjunct Associate Professor in Civil Engineering\, University of Cape Town \nDr. Gaathier Mahed has a strong background in Groundwater and has trained globally\, serving on technical panels for sustainable development water research. He holds voluntary executive and non-executive board positions at various NGOs and institutions\, and has a deep academic background intersecting science\, leadership\, Waqf\, and Islamic finance. Recognized widely for his academic and innovative excellence\, Dr. Mahed brings a unique multidisciplinary perspective to environmental science and sustainability. \nSession Details & Registration\n\n\n\n\nDate: 14th Nov\, 2026 \n\n\nTime: 3:00 PM Makkah Time \n\n\nFormat: Monthly Discussion Meeting (Online) \n\n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER
